Thing 86: Joe's Crab Shack
Nov. 22nd, 2010 10:44 am86. Visit ten new restaurants
Current progress: 6/10
Though we'd originally planned to have dinner at Potbelly, we were scared off by the throngs of people at the cinema for the newest Harry Potter film. So we turned around and wandered a bit, eventually ending up at Joe's Crab Shack in Fairfax. (I never said my new restaurants couldn't be major national chains.)
Though I was sorely tempted by the seafood enchiladas, I went with the signature dish: a bucket of crab legs with corn and new potatoes. Specifically, I had the garlic & herb snow crab. It had been years since I last ate crab, and it took me quite a few legs before I got the hang of it again. Even so, I took more than twice the amount of time my husband did to eat his crab cakes. The crab itself was very flavorful, and I found I didn't even need the butter dip. The corn and potatoes were good too, though nothing to write home about.
In short, it was tasty, but not something I expect to crave on any kind of regular basis. Crab legs are too much work!
