86. Visit ten new restaurants

Current Progress: 9/10

Anita's New Mexico Style Mexican Food is a local chain I’ve been wanting to try pretty much since I moved to the area almost eight years ago. My husband wasn’t too interested, but I happened to have an evening to myself one day so I went for it. I had the vegetable enchilada, which turned out to be a bit of a soggy mess. It was drowning in sauce, the sort of Tex-Mex dish you get sometimes when there’s no distinct boundary between the entree, rice, and refried beans. It tasted okay, but I think I’d prefer my meal to be less mushy. I seriously doubt I’ll be eating there again.

90. Attend a SF/F convention

Completed 27 May 2011

I spent this past weekend at Balticon 45 in Hunt Valley, Maryland, just north of Baltimore. We only went because my husband was a guest. I hadn’t known what to expect, and if we go again next year we’ll be more prepared, but I had a good time nonetheless. The attendees were all very friendly and my husband enjoyed his panels. I’ll be curious to see how it compares to Dragon*Con in September. I know it’s a much smaller convention, but I wonder how the programming content differs. I’m not very good at being a fan (I don’t really care about meeting authors/actors/celebrities in person), but there were some fun-sounding writing and art workshops at Balticon I wish I hadn’t missed.

Anyway, this Thing is done and I am pleased.

9. Log 1001 miles on the stationary bike

Current progress: 478/1001

I have absolutely no idea when/if I'll be able to get back on track with this Thing. First of all, I tore a couple of ligaments in my ankle on Easter Sunday, pretty much ensuring I'll be on crutches for the rest of the summer. Second and more importantly, I cancelled my gym membership. I intend to get another one at some point, but right now it just doesn't fit in my life. So we'll leave this one alone for now and perhaps someday I'll be able to get back on the bike.

24. Read/listen to 250 books (not counting rereads)

In order to complete this goal, I have to finish 151 books in the next 555 days. In the last 555 days, I have read 122 books. If I continue at the rate I have been reading so far during this 101/1001 challenge, I will finish an additional 123ish books, ending the 1001 days with only 222 books completed.

I need to step it up, man. Or take a long solo road trip.

85. Attend 5 plays

Current progress: 4/5

My husband was the sound designer for the latest show from the Reston Comunity Players, Moonlight and Magnolias. I got to see it on closing weekend. I laughed quite a bit and was very impressed by the acting. And, of course, by my husband's brilliant sound design. Good times.
