6. Don't eat fast food for a month

Failed. And it was tasty.

I'll try again another time.

94. Recycle my old shoes

I did a little research on this. I knew it was possible; I just didn't know where to take them. Somehow I don't think my shoes are appropriate for curbside pickup. :)

See, these shoes are far too worn out to donate to the thrift store. I don't really care what happens to them; I just don't like to throw out something that clearly has a fair amount of reuseable materials.

The main trouble was finding a local place to drop them off. Shoes are bulky and heavy; I didn't want to have to mail them. Perhaps the most comprehensive list of links I found was at EduBook. Most of them are located in other countries (or Texas and Colorado, which might as well be other countries when you live in Virginia), but there is a large international drive called Nike Reuse-a-Shoe. They have drop-off locations at all of their local outlet stores. Score! Next time I'm out that way (or, more likely, make a special trip), I'll be sure to bring my old sneakers.

Now I just have to figure out how to recycle my high heels. Earth911 is great, but there's nowhere that specifically accepts dress shoes - at least that I've found yet. But I'm still looking.

25. Get TBR pile under 50 books (even just temporarily)

As of this writing, my TBR pile is at 165 books, not counting the dozen or so volumes of Death Note manga. This is, if I recall correctly, the exact same number I was at when I started, despite having read nearly two dozen books in the meantime. Hmm. I might have to rethink my strategy.

86. Visit ten new restaurants

Current progress: 2/10

I totally forgot to mention that I had Lebanese food for the first time at Lebanese Taverna in Tysons Galleria last Saturday. I had the chicken shawarma and it was soooooo tasty. Definitely going to have to go there again.

37. Take and post a photo a day for a month

The question is where to post this. Here are my options as I see it:

1. This here blog. That would get pretty posty, and I imagine there are plenty of friends who do not (and do not wish to) follow this journal who would feel like they were missing out if I didn't share the photos with them.

2. My regular blog. This would unfortunately violate my one-post-per-day rule unless I simply put off posting anything else for a month.

3. My personal blog. I could either upload them separately or use Flickr. Of course, I don't know if I can send 30 multimedia messages in a month, so that might get nixed out of hand.

4. Likewise with Twitpic.

5. My posterous journal. It's easy to just email the photos, and as long as I don't do it at the same time as thing-a-day in February, it won't get too spammy.

6. A separate blog all together. I have several unused blog accounts, such as Blogger, InsaneJournal, and Tumblr.

Thoughts?

68. Visit one state I've never been to before

See, the trouble is that I live in Virginia, and I've already visited a fair number of the states nearby.

visited 32 states (64%)
Create your own visited map of The United States

It's looking like my best bets are Rhode Island and South Carolina. Google Maps tells me it'll take about 8 hours to get to Providence or to Columbia. I'd like to visit a reasonably large city and explore a bit, not just step over the border and call it done.

Unfortunately, I just don't have any reason to go to either of those states. Neither of them hold any major SF/F conventions, anime conventions, comic conventions, Celtic festivals, or Renaissance Faires. I don't, as far as I know, have any close friends or family in either state. My husband and I have discussed going to Dragon*Con in 2011 or 2012 (which would also accomplish Thing 90) but we'd only hit SC if we drove. And we haven't decided for sure that we're driving yet.

I'll have to do some more research. In the meantime, if anyone has any recommendations for either state, feel free to comment.

101. TBD

I thought about having it be The Sketchbook Project I'm currently participating in, but decided against it since it's so similar to things 30, 31, and 42.

So...any suggestions?
